Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama has made a bizarre announcement that the world’s first AI government minister, Diella, is “pregnant” with 83 digital children.

Speaking from Berlin during the Global Dialogue (BGD), an international forum held annually in the German capital, Rama said each of Diella’s “children” will serve as a personal AI assistant for every member of parliament.

“Diella is pregnant and expecting 83 children, one for each member of our parliament,” Rama said. “They will assist MPs during sessions, take notes, offer advice, and provide updates — even if an MP steps out for coffee.”

He added that each AI assistant will carry Diella’s knowledge of EU legislation, helping lawmakers stay informed and react faster during debates. Rama quipped, “If your name is mentioned for the wrong reasons, your AI child will remind you to counterattack.”

Diella, introduced in September 2025, became the world’s first AI to hold a cabinet-level post. She currently oversees Albania’s public procurement systems, a key move the government says will increase transparency and curb corruption by reducing human bias in major decisions.

However, not everyone is convinced. Opposition lawmakers mocked the project, calling it “techno-theatrics.” Critics argue that entrusting political processes to artificial intelligence raises serious ethical and accountability issues, as legal frameworks are designed for humans — not algorithms.

Despite the controversy, Rama remains confident that Diella’s “digital family” will revolutionize how governments work. “Artificial Intelligence is no longer science fiction,” he said. “It’s Albania’s new reality.”
