Football fans in Nigeria are in for a treat as twelve former Super Eagles stars will take part in a special Africa Legends vs Barcelona Legends match this Saturday, 25 October, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The friendly match will kick off at 3:00 p.m. and promises to be a star-studded occasion, bringing together some of the biggest names in African and European football history.
African greats unite
Leading the African Legends will be Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, and Vincent Enyeama. They will be joined by fellow Nigerian icons Obafemi Martins, Taiye Taiwo, Elderson Echiejile, Victor Ikpeba, Julius Aghahowa, Daniel Amokachi, and Samson Siasia, who will also serve as the team’s manager.
Other African football stars set to feature include Mark Fish (South Africa), Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo), El Hadji Diouf (Senegal), Essam El Hadary (Egypt), and Didier Zokora (Ivory Coast).
Interestingly, Haruna Babangida and Gbenga Okunowo, both Nigerians who once played for Barcelona, will represent the Barcelona Legends team.
Barcelona Legends bring the magic
The Barcelona Legends, coached by Albert Ferrer, arrive in Nigeria fresh from a 3–2 win against Monterrey Legends in Mexico.
Their squad features several club favourites, including Gaizka Mendieta, Ludovic Giuly, Javier Saviola, Nolito, and Juan Pablo Sorín.
Also making appearances are Vítor Baía, Jesús Angoy, Philippe Christanval, and Roger Garcia. Alex Song, the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder, and Andreu Fontàs, a La Masia graduate, will make their debuts for the Legends team.
The event promises to be a celebration of football, talent, and nostalgia — as African stars and Barcelona heroes reunite on one of Nigeria’s biggest stages.
