Ruben Amorim has admitted that Manchester United were “a bit lucky” in their 2–1 win over Liverpool, as he urged his players and fans to stay calm ahead of this weekend’s clash with Brighton.
The victory at Old Trafford was the first time United have won two games in a row since Amorim took charge, but the Portuguese manager said the result should not change expectations or their long-term approach.
“What I meant is that we cannot change too much,” Amorim told reporters, as quoted by Goal. “At the end of the match, they asked me about the top four. But if [Cody] Gakpo’s shot had gone 20 centimetres the other way, the story would be completely different.”
He added that while he understands criticism after poor results, it’s important not to overreact to a single win.
“At a club like this, when you don’t win many games, people will doubt you — and they have reasons for that,” Amorim said. “But we have to stay clear on our path and not change everything just because we win one game.”
Amorim’s United will now face Brighton this weekend as they look to build on their momentum — but the manager made it clear he wants consistency, not overconfidence.
