The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has clarified that all funds it receives from FIFA and CAF are meant for specific purposes and not free gifts to the Federation.

In a statement released on Friday, the NFF explained that the clarification became necessary following false claims on social media suggesting that the Federation “collects” millions of dollars annually from FIFA without accountability.

The NFF stressed that every fund received from FIFA or CAF is tied to particular projects or programmes, and both governing bodies conduct annual audits to ensure proper use of the money.

According to the Federation, development funds and FIFA Forward grants are strictly monitored and audited at every stage, with compliance and financial regulations fully observed.

Projects such as the ongoing NFF/FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches at the MKO Abiola National Stadium are closely supervised, verified, and approved before additional funds are released to FIFA-approved consultants.

The NFF criticised those spreading false figures online, noting that such individuals lack understanding of the high cost of organising even a single national team match.

It added that the Federation operates under strict financial guidelines and regularly presents its audited accounts—prepared by the reputable firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers—at its Annual General Assembly, in line with global best practices.
