Fayetteville restaurant Herman’s Ribhouse[1], which was inducted into the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame last year, is looking for a buyer, the owners said.

Nick and Carrie Wright posted Wednesday (Oct. 23) on social media that “the rumors are true – Herman’s Ribhouse is officially up for sale.” The 2,000-square-foot restaurant at 2901 N. College Ave. has served ribs, steaks and other smoked meats for more than six decades.

“This place has meant the world to us, and it’s not a decision we made lightly,” the Wrights said. “We’re incredibly proud of the memories, the meals and the community that’s grown around these walls.”

The owners said they hope to find a new owner “who loves Herman’s as much as we do – someone ready to carry on the legacy and keep serving up the tradition that’s made this spot so special for so many years.” According to the social media post, the owners will “keep you posted as things move forward.”

Fayetteville native Herman Tuck opened the restaurant in 1964. Tuck retired in the 1990s, and long-time family friends Bruce and P.J. Barnes started operating the business. After they left to start a restaurant, Benny Spears and Shelby Rogers bought Herman’s in July 2000. In 2013, Rogers sold it to long-time employees Nick and Carrie Wright. Tuck, the restaurant’s founder and namesake, died in 2015[2]. He was 85.

Property records show Hermans Rib House Inc., whose president is Carrie Wright, bought the restaurant building and 0.98-acre property for $529,000 in January 2016. The seller was HRH LLC, managed by Rogers.

Springdale-based Legacy National Bank provided a seven-year loan of $534,368. The loan was extended by three years in January 2023.
