The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) of Rs 2.5 billion for the establishment of the Pakistan Maritime Science and Technology Park (PMSTP) under the Pakistan Navy, marking a significant step toward advancing the country’s maritime research and innovation capabilities.
The decision was made during an ECC meeting chaired by Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Friday. The grant will be utilized to develop a dedicated maritime research and innovation hub, focusing on marine engineering, oceanography, and blue economy technologies.
According to officials, the project aims to strengthen Pakistan’s role in the regional maritime domain and support innovation in defense technology and ocean sciences.
“The PMSTP will enhance indigenous research capacity and help Pakistan tap into its vast maritime potential,” an ECC official noted, adding that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader Blue Economy Strategy.
The establishment of the park is expected to facilitate collaboration between the Navy, research institutions, and the private sector, promoting technological self-reliance and high-tech innovation within Pakistan’s maritime sector.
The ECC also approved other grants, including funding for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Frontier Works Organization (FWO), but the green light for the PMSTP project stood out as a major investment in national scientific development.
