Washington Regional Medical Center[1] in Fayetteville announced Thursday (Oct. 23) that it will assume operations of Northwest Health Physicians’ Specialty Hospital on Dec. 1. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 20-bed specialty hospital at 3873 Parkview Drive in Fayetteville has been a part of Springdale-based health system Northwest Health[2] since 2016. The hospital will be renamed Washington Regional Physicians’ Specialty Hospital. The hospital has five operating rooms, a procedure room, an imaging suite, a laboratory and emergency care services.
According to a news release, the expansion will allow Washington Regional to increase surgical capacity to provide additional same-day procedures and accommodate those who require an overnight hospital stay. The hospital will specialize in orthopedic, spine, and other outpatient elective services as well as emergency care.
Washington Regional’s surgical services department performs more than 30,000 surgeries and procedures annually between its main campus and its North Hills Surgery Center.
“Assuming operations of Physicians’ Specialty Hospital represents a strategic investment in the future of health care in Northwest Arkansas by Washington Regional,” said Larry Shackelford, Washington Regional president and CEO. “The addition of this campus will allow us to collaborate more closely with surgeons in our community to expand capacity for same-day and overnight surgical services. Patients can expect the same high quality, patient-centered care at the Physician’s Specialty Hospital facility that they are accustomed to receiving at Washington Regional Medical Center and North Hills Surgery Center.”
The release shows that Washington Regional will provide updates to employees, medical staff, patients, and the community as the transition approaches. Updates will be provided on the Washington Regional website or its social media platforms.
Before becoming a part of Northwest Health in 2016[3], Physicians’ Specialty Hospital was owned and operated by a group of area doctors.
