In a major step toward modernization and inclusivity, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has announced that new Pakistani passports will now feature the mother’s name alongside the father’s. The department confirmed that the initiative aims to ensure greater representation and accuracy in personal identification.

According to the Passport Department, the redesigned passports come with advanced security features and updated designs. Visa pages will now showcase historic landmarks from all provinces, reflecting Pakistan’s cultural diversity and heritage.

Officials added that,

“With the approval of the Ministry of Interior, printing of the new passport booklets has already begun. The changes are being made in line with modernization and harmonization standards.” However, aside from these new features, no other changes are being made to the passport’s structure or issuance process.

The inclusion of both parents’ names is being hailed as a progressive move, offering convenience for citizens especially in documentation related to education, travel, and guardianship.
