For 23-year-old Super Eagles and Pari Nizhny Novgorod forward, Olakunle Olusegun, making his debut for the Nigerian national team was a dream come true. The former Golden Eaglet described his first appearance for the Super Eagles as an unforgettable experience.
“Playing for my country at the top level is something I can’t explain,” Olusegun said. “They called me, I came, and I played.”
Full of confidence and ambition, the young attacker believes this is only the beginning of greater things to come. “I believe more is still coming, and I have that belief,” he added with a smile.
Beyond the joy of his debut, Olusegun spoke fondly about his time in camp, where he built strong bonds with his teammates. He mentioned that he has grown particularly close to Moses Simon and Victor Osimhen, two senior players who have offered him guidance and encouragement.
“The person I always talk with every time is Moses Simon because he’s my senior man, and I need that encouragement,” he shared. “He and Osimhen always encourage me to keep improving.”
Training alongside Victor Osimhen, one of the world’s most admired strikers, made a deep impression on Olusegun. “In training, he doesn’t joke at all — that’s something I’ve learned from him,” he said. “No matter where you find yourself, don’t joke with your work.”
Olusegun also praised Osimhen’s humility and leadership qualities. “He’s a very cool guy. Most people would be proud, but he’s not. He talks to everybody — that’s what makes him a leader.”
Looking ahead, the young forward expressed optimism about Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying campaign and their chances of reaching the tournament. “We are determined and we know what we are going there for,” he said. “We’re hopeful for the future, and let’s see what the games hold.”
For a player who believes the sky is only the beginning, Olusegun’s journey could be another bright story in the rise of a new generation of Super Eagles stars.
