Sean Dyche to be confirmed as Nottingham Forest manager – as owner Evangelos Marinakis moves on from his ‘ideal’ candidate to replace sacked Ange Postecoglou

Sean Dyche^[1] is set to be confirmed as the new manager of Nottingham Forest^[2] and take charge of Thursday’s Europa League^[3] clash with Porto.

The former Burnley^[4] and Everton^[5] boss is poised to succeed Ange Postecoglou^[6] and become Forest’s third boss already this season. Postecoglou was sacked on October 18 after a disastrous tenure lasting only 39 days.

Daily Mail Sport first revealed on October 3 that Postecoglou’s role was in jeopardy, even though he was appointed only on September 9.

Dyche, 54, has a proven track record in the Premier League^[7] with Burnley and Everton and is set to bring in long-term allies Ian Woan and Steve Stone as part of his coaching team. Both played for Forest in the 1990s, while Dyche was a youth team player at the City Ground under Brian Clough but never made a first-team appearance.

Forest have not won in any competition since they beat Brentford^[8] on the opening day of the Premier League season.

They spent significant funds last summer to try to build a squad capable of competing both domestically and in the Europa League, which owner Evangelos Marinakis sees as the quickest route to Champions League football.

But Nuno Espirito Santo lasted only until September before he was sacked after huge problems behind the scenes and the appointment of Postecoglou proved a huge mistake.

Marinakis’ ideal appointment has long been Marco Silva, but the Fulham boss has a huge release clause in his contract and even if Forest had been willing to pay it, it is unclear whether he would have been prepared to leave Craven Cottage in the middle of a season.

Silva’s deal at Fulham expires at the end of the campaign.
