‘Sincerely Apologize’

“Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance,” singer says after leaving show mid-song

Brandy[1] said in a statement that dehydration was to blame for the singer’s abrupt and early exit from her Saturday night concert with Monica[2] in Chicago.

The Boy Is Mine Tour, co-headlined by Brandy and Monica[3], kicked off earlier this week in Cincinnati. However, at the third show of the tour Saturday in Chicago, video emerged of Brandy suddenly leaving the stage mid-song during “Baby”; she never returned to the concert, forcing Monica to handle the remainder of the show herself, and depriving the crowd from the finale duet of their 1998 hit “The Boy Is Mine.”

Amid speculation about why Brandy abruptly left the concert — Monica immediately dismissed any possible bad blood by shouting out Brandy when the show continued — the singer explained in a statement Sunday morning that she was forced to exit due to health issues.

“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint, everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance,” Brandy wrote.

“I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling OK. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production, I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts

Brandy also thanked Monica for “stepping up with such grace and professionalism,” and added that after leaving the show she went to a nearby doctor who apparently gave her the green light to continue with The Boy Is Mine tour, without delay.

“I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis,” Brandy wrote.
