Emiru, one of Twitch’s[1] biggest female streamers, was assaulted in a shocking lapse of security at TwitchCon[2] 2025 during a meet-and-greet event in San Diego, California. A now viral video shows a tall male attendee breezing through security and grabbing the streamer before attempting to kiss her non-consensually, before security intervened.

The incident has set off a firestorm of hate against TwitchCon organizers, with internet users finding older stream clips of Emiru talking about her apprehensions over doing the event, and even discussing how her “favorite” security guard was banned from TwitchCon despite preventing a similar incident two years ago. Here’s a recap of all that’s happened[3].

Who Is Emiru, and What Happened With Her At TwitchCon 2025?

Emiru, whose real name is Emily Schunk, is a prominent streamer and cosplayer with a strong Twitch presence, best known for her League of Legends content and involvement in the creator collective One True King. On the opening day of TwitchCon 2025, she was participating in a meet-and-greet event when a male attendee approached her on stage, grabbed her, and appeared to lean in for a kiss without her consent. The lone security guard who appears pushes the attacker off the streamer, and he’s shown to simply walk off after the incident.

A short clip of the incident was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user @BaconCrumbz and was later shared to the subreddit /r/LivestreamFails, where it garnered outrage from thousands of viewers.

Why Was Emiru’s Favourite Security Guard Banned From Twitch?

Prior to this incident, Emiru had publicly spoken in streams about a situation two years earlier where her preferred security guard was barred from attending TwitchCon. According to clips shared online, notably by Reddit user u/No-Friendship-5311 in the r/LivestreamFails subreddit, she said this guard had physically restrained a man who was stalking her at a previous event, and was banned from the venue for intervening physically.

Other Redditers like u/dashieman66 posted clips of Emiru and her fellow Twitch streamers talking about how Emiru felt contractually obligated to appear despite her safety reservations, and how Twitch had told her to attend the meet-and-greet if she also wanted to do her show at the convention.

How Did Twitch Respond To The Incident?

On October 18, 2025, Twitch issued a statement acknowledging the assault and stressing that “the behavior displayed by the individual involved in the incident … was completely unacceptable and deeply upsetting.” They confirmed that, in line with existing TwitchCon security protocols, law enforcement and event security had responded, the individual was immediately blocked from returning to the premises, and was banned indefinitely from Twitch. Notably, the statement did not mention Emiru by name.

But Emiru had a different account of what took place at TwitchCon, and in a statement issued on October 18th, she wrote, “I don’t understand how he was allowed to make it to me in the first place. The security in the clip who reacts is my own security […] However, there were at least 3 or 4 other Twitchcon security staff in the area who did not react and let the guy walk away.” She alleged that her assaulter was not “immediately” apprehended, and that “Twitch security were also behind the booth afterward joking about how they didn’t even see what happened.”

How Did Internet Users React To The Emisu Twitch Incident?

On October 17th, 2025, X user @Sh3nAndygans reposted the video of Emiru being attacked, writing, “Saw so many women saying they weren’t going to be attending TwitchCon this year because they don’t feel safe, and then this happens to Emiru on day one.”

Also on October 18th, X user @BestfriendKick quote-tweeted a video showing what appears to be Emiru’s assaulter walking around TwitchCon.
