The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced that the cancellation of the National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) for deceased citizens will now be free of charge.
The decision was made on the directions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to encourage timely and accurate registration of deaths. According to NADRA, after registering a death with the relevant Union Council or Pakistani Embassy, any immediate family member, including parents, siblings, spouse, or children, can cancel the deceased’s NICOP without paying a fee.
The process can be completed either through the Pak ID mobile application or by visiting the nearest NADRA Centre. In addition, NADRA has also removed the requirement to physically return the deceased’s NICOP card.
The new policy aims to simplify the documentation process for families of overseas Pakistanis and ensure the accuracy of national records. NADRA stated that offering free NICOP cancellation will help streamline death registrations and maintain updated citizen data.
