Donald Trump has threatened to go into Gaza[1] and kill Hamas[2] days after the ceasefire came into effect.
The US president issued the threat as he accused Hamas of killing people in Gaza. However, he didn’t provide further details of the alleged killings he was referring to. He wrote on Truth Social: “If Hamas continues to kill people in Gaza, which was not the Deal, we will have no choice but to go in and kill them. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Last week, US officials said about 200 American troops would be sent to Israel[3] to help support and monitor the ceasefire deal after two years of war. The officials said the troops would establish a “civil-military coordination centre” to help facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid as well as logistical and security assistance into the territory.
In recent days, reports have surfaced of clashes between Hamas and members of Palestinian gangs and rival clans that received Israeli[5] backing during the war. Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violating the ceasefire since it came into effect.
Today, a senior Hamas official accused Israel of killing at least 24 people in shootings since Friday. He said: “The occupying state is working day and night to undermine the agreement through its violations on the ground.”
Meanwhile, Trump also revealed details of a call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin[6] and said the pair are set to meet face-to-face again.
