Apple has introduced the latest MacBook Pro and Vision Pro, both featuring the company’s new M5 chip. This processor brings notable improvements in computing power, especially for artificial intelligence tasks and graphics-intensive applications.

The M5 is manufactured using third-generation 3nm technology. Its CPU is configured with up to ten cores, split between four performance cores and six efficiency cores. Apple claims these performance cores are the fastest in any consumer chip to date. The new chip offers up to 15% better multithreaded performance compared to last year’s M4.

A key upgrade is the M5’s graphics subsystem. The chip now includes a Neural Accelerator in each of its GPU cores, and Apple[1] states the new GPU delivers more than four times the peak compute performance for AI compared to the M4. Overall graphics performance is up by 45%, and the chip can support up to 32GB of RAM, with memory bandwidth increasing to 153GB/s—a nearly 30% jump over the previous generation.

According to Apple, every compute block in the M5 chip is designed with AI processing in mind. This allows the new MacBook Pro and Vision Pro to accelerate tasks such as running diffusion models in creative apps or using large language models directly on the device through platforms like webAI.

A new ray tracing engine also debuts with the M5, offering a 45% boost in performance. The chip’s second-generation dynamic caching architecture is intended to provide smoother gameplay, improved realism in 3D apps, and faster rendering for complex graphics projects.
