Google’s new Pixel 10 Pro Fold[1], which hit shelves just last week, is already making headlines, but not for the reasons Google might have hoped. The foldable flagship recently faced JerryRigEverything’s signature durability test, and the results cast doubt on Google’s durability claims.

YouTuber Zack Nelson put the Pixel 10 Pro Fold through his usual lineup of scratch, burn, and bend tests. While the phone held up reasonably well in some areas, it completely failed the bend test the one which determines a foldable’s structural integrity.

Despite its hinge staying intact, the device snapped along its antenna lines, echoing the same weak spots found in last year’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold. What followed, however, was far more alarming. According to the source[2], the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s battery exploded, sending out a visible puff of smoke, an incident Nelson called unprecedented in his long-running durability series.

It’s important to remember that these tests are intentionally extreme and don’t reflect normal usage conditions. Still, the incident raises fresh concerns about how much physical stress today’s ultra-thin foldables can realistically handle.
