Dubai is taking a bold step toward the future of smart mobility. The city’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to link traffic signals directly with vehicle dashboards using artificial intelligence (AI) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2X) technology.
The project, known as UX Fusion, will allow real-time traffic updates to appear on dashboards. Drivers will see traffic signals countdowns, safe speed recommendations, and alerts about congestion or accidents. This means less distraction and safer, smoother driving.
The system uses computer vision, data analytics, and digital twin technology to monitor traffic flow, vehicle types, and pedestrian movement. Unlike traditional systems, signal timings will be optimized across entire road corridors, not just individual intersections. This network-wide approach will help reduce stops and improve traffic flow.
RTA began rolling out the upgraded signal control system in early 2025. The proof-of-concept phase is already underway, and the project has shown promising results. So far, intersection efficiency has improved by 16–37%, while travel times have dropped by up to 20%.
The dashboard integration feature is still in development. RTA is working with car manufacturers to make dashboards compatible with the system. Full integration is expected within the next two to three years, with the overall rollout covering 300 intersections by 2026.
Dubai’s approach mirrors the advanced traffic systems used in cities like Singapore, Seoul, and Helsinki. By combining AI and V2X, Dubai aims to set new global standards in urban mobility. The initiative aligns with the city’s broader strategy to reduce congestion, improve safety, and enhance the overall driving experience.
