Fire Max 11

It’s one of the last remaining Amazon Prime deals but the cheapest price in more than eight months ends very soon

Amazon has been running its Prime Big Deal Days, and there are remaining discounts on some devices. But those deals end today, 14 October, so if shoppers want to save, they’ll have to move fast.

There’s a huge saving on the Fire Max 11 tablet[2], where Amazon is offering a massive 48% off the price. Normally, the Fire Max 11 is £249.99, but it’s down to £129.99 on Amazon[3], which is almost as low as it was last Black Friday[4].

The Fire Max 11 is Amazon’s top tablet, offering the largest screen and the most power. There are also loads of accessories for it, so if you want to use it as a laptop replacement, you can pair it with the keyboard case and get to work.

Amazon’s Fire tablets come in a range of sizes, offering access to Amazon’s own app store, where you’ll find loads of games, tools, and streaming apps[7], so you’ll be covered for entertainment or productivity.

Those apps include Netflix[8], Disney+, Roblox, Minecraft, as well as access to Microsoft 365 apps and loads more. The app selection on the Fire tablet isn’t quite as good as they are on a regular Android tablet or the iPad, but once you’re in Netflix, the app is exactly the same.

We’re entering the final hours of the Fire Max 11 tablet sales, with £120 off the price on Amazon.

The Fire Max 11 has an aluminium shell rather than plastic like Amazon’s other tablets, meaning it looks better and offers great durability, with one shopper saying: “The build quality I can’t fault … The metal back makes it feel premium.”

The 11-inch display has slimmer bezels than Amazon’s other tablets, so although the screen is larger, the tablet isn’t much bigger overall. The screen is also a higher resolution, so there’s more detail, while this is also the most powerful tablet that Amazon offers.

There’s up to 128GB of storage, although the storage can be expanded via a microSD card up to 1TB. That’s loads of space for documents or downloaded content.

The battery will last for around 14 hours – so that’s a long day of work – and it will recharge in just over 4 hours.

The most common complaint about Amazon’s tablets is that Amazon services are front and centre, so you’ll get Prime Video recommendations, and on this model, there are also adverts. You can opt not to have adverts if you pay £10 more.

If you want to go for a traditional Android tablet instead, then you might want to consider the Samsung Galaxy A9, which is £110.34 on Amazon[10], a healthy discount from the £199 launch price. This tablet was launched in 2023, however, it might be a little basic for your needs.

Away from Amazon’s deals, Argos is also dropping lots of prices on tablets[11]. Including the Honor Pad 9, a 12.1-inch device which comes with high resolution, an adjustable refresh rate, and vibrant screen. Now reduced to £199.99.

Back to the Amazon Fire Max 11 tablet, and shoppers are overwhelmingly positive about it. They praise the build, the screen and the fast WiFi connection. As one person said: “The display is crisp and bright, and the fingerprint sensor works really well and saves having to enter a PIN every time I want to use it.”

Another happy customer praised the performance: “My son plays Roblox and Minecraft, these installed easily and work better than the iPad. The screen is something else, looks amazing, and I really like the wide aspect ratio.”

But it’s not all positive, with some calling out the app experience: “The biggest issue is the lack of Google[12] Play. Not all the Amazon apps are as good as the actual android apps in the Google Play store” and “I’m happy to be de-Googling my life to some extent, but the Amazon App Store is seriously deficient in product.”
