Microsoft is rolling out a major update[1] to Copilot on Windows, introducing two significant features: account connectors and document generation tools that move the assistant closer to becoming a full productivity hub. The update begins with Windows Insiders and will expand to more users in the coming weeks.
Account Linking
With the new connectors feature, users can link multiple personal services, including OneDrive, Outlook (emails, contacts, calendar), Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google[2] Contacts. Once connected, Copilot can search across all these sources using natural language.
For example, you can ask “What is Sarah’s email address?” or “Find my notes from last week,” and Copilot will retrieve results from any linked account. These integrations are opt-in, meaning users must manually enable them in Copilot’s settings under the “Connectors” section.
The feature aims to unify productivity by combining communication, file storage, and data retrieval. It effectively turns Copilot into a cross-platform assistant capable of pulling information from Microsoft and Google services simultaneously.
Create Documents Directly from Chat
The update also adds the ability to generate and export documents directly from Copilot chat. Users can now create Word documents, Excel sheets, PowerPoint slides, or PDFs within a chat session.
When a Copilot response exceeds 600 characters, an “Export” button appears, allowing users to convert the content instantly into their preferred file format. This simplifies workflows that previously required manual copying of content between applications.
Microsoft says the update is part of its plan to make Copilot a central workspace tool across Windows 11 and Microsoft 365. The assistant is being integrated into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote, allowing users to generate summaries, edit content, or create new material without leaving the app.
In Outlook, for instance, Copilot can now summarize attachments such as Word, PowerPoint, and PDF files directly within the reading pane. A new sidebar also embeds Copilot chat alongside emails, enabling users to draft replies or analyze content in real-time.
The update, version 1.25095.161.0 and above, is being delivered through the Microsoft Store to Windows Insider channels. Microsoft confirmed that the rollout will be gradual, so not all testers will receive the features right away.
