Teachers working under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) are still awaiting the implementation of their promised salary raise to Rs. 20,000, despite an earlier announcement by the provincial education minister. The delay has sparked frustration among educators struggling with inflation and rising living costs.

Earlier this year, the Punjab government had announced a long-awaited salary increase for teachers serving in PEF partner schools to improve their financial conditions. However, the foundation has yet to issue an official notification, leaving thousands of teachers uncertain about when the hike will take effect.

According to reports, owners of PEF partner schools have refused to implement the new pay scale without an official directive.

“We will not proceed until the PEF issues a formal notification,” said one school owner, emphasizing the need for clarity from the authorities.

Meanwhile, PEF officials claim the proposal is still under review and requires formal approval from the provincial cabinet before being executed.

Teachers have voiced growing concern over the delay, urging the government to expedite the salary increase process.

“We were hopeful after the minister’s announcement, but the continued delay has made it hard to manage amid inflation,” shared a PEF teacher from Lahore.

The issue highlights the ongoing challenges faced by contractual and foundation-based educators in Punjab’s private-public schooling model. Many education experts argue that timely implementation of salary reforms is essential to sustain teacher motivation and education quality in low-income communities.
