Pakistan is once again grappling with widespread internet disruptions, leaving users unable to access major social platforms. Facebook and X have gone offline for many without VPN access, as multiple service providers, including PTCL, Ufone, and Zong, report outages. Users are also facing noticeably slower browsing speeds across the country.

While several networks remain affected, Nayatel users seem largely unaffected for now, managing to access Facebook and X without issues. On the other hand, PTCL subscribers are reporting severe disruptions, with even basic communication apps like WhatsApp failing to work properly.

Outage monitoring site Downdetector has recorded a surge in complaints from Pakistan, showing hundreds of reports related to Facebook’s downtime. Similar issues are being discussed on X, where users continue to highlight the ongoing connectivity breakdown.

The disruption follows a turbulent weekend marked by mobile internet shutdowns in Islamabad and Lahore. Authorities had earlier suspended services amid the ongoing protests by a religious group, citing security concerns.

In response, the government imposed strict measures, including roadblocks, heavy police deployment, and temporary internet blackouts to contain large gatherings. The Ministry of Interior and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) ordered the suspension of 3G and 4G services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi starting October 9.

Officials said the temporary suspension was aimed at maintaining public order. Yet, the recurring blackouts continue to disrupt digital communication and affect both personal and business activities nationwide.
