Stanley Nwabali has sustained an injury that potentially clouds the Super Eagles

Former Nigeria striker Brown Ideye says the Super Eagles have not yet found the perfect strike partner for star forward Victor Osimhen.

Nigeria recently beat Lesotho 2-1 in a tight FIFA World Cup qualifier, but the team’s chances of qualifying are still uncertain.

In that match, Osimhen played alongside two different strikers. Tolu Arokodare started the game, and later Akor Adams came on as a substitute and scored the second goal.

Even though Osimhen helped create the goal, he struggled to link up well with either of his strike partners during the match.

Ideye: “We’re Still Looking for the Right Balance”

Speaking on SuperSport, Ideye, who helped Nigeria win the AFCON in 2013, said there is plenty of attacking talent in the team, but the right connection with Osimhen is missing.

“Osimhen definitely needs someone to play with him,” said Ideye.

“Watching Tolu in the first half and Akor in the few minutes he played, it’s clear we’re still searching for the right balance in attack.”

Ideye spoke from experience, pointing to his successful partnership with Emmanuel Emenike during Nigeria’s AFCON-winning run in 2013. He said having good understanding between strikers is key in top-level football.

Must-Win Game Ahead

Nigeria are currently third in Group C of the qualifiers. They face Benin in a crucial match on Tuesday, where only a win will keep their hopes alive.

The Super Eagles will also be hoping that group leaders South Africa drop points when they play Rwanda, to boost Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
