A man is in critical condition after he is believed to have been doused in petrol and set on fire.

The man, in his 40s, was rushed to hospital following a “serious assault” in Co. Tipperary, in Ireland, on Saturday evening. Two men, in their 20s, were arrested in connection with the incident a short while later and they remain in custody.

A spokesperson for the gardai in Ireland said: “Shortly after 9pm on Saturday, 11th October 2025, Gardaí responded to reports of a serious assault at Knockane, Co. Tipperary.

“A male in his 40s was treated at the scene and subsequently transported by ambulance to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries.”

The spokesperson, according to the Irish Mirror[1], added: “Two males, both in their 20s, were later arrested in connection with the investigation.

“They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in Co. Tipperary. Investigations are ongoing.”
