The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), in collaboration with provincial governments, has launched a digital birth and death notification system in hospitals and health centers across Pakistan. The initiative aims to make the registration process more efficient, swift, and transparent.

Following directives from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, NADRA is working to strengthen Pakistan’s registration system and address existing gaps. The project falls under the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in January. Currently in its pilot phase, the system will be rolled out nationwide once provincial governments are ready for full-scale implementation.

Under the pilot program, NADRA has deployed the system in over 50 hospitals and health centers nationwide. These include major hospitals in Islamabad such as PIMS, CDA, and Federal Government hospitals; Lady Aitchison Hospital in Lahore; Bolan Medical College, DHQ, Sheikh Zayed, and Arya Hospital in Quetta; DHQ Hospitals in Haripur and Batkhela in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; DHQ Hospital Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir; Shaheed Syed Rehman Hospital in Gilgit; and several hospitals and Basic Health Units (BHUs) in Hyderabad and Matiari, Sindh.

Automated System Simplifies Birth and Death Registration

Through this automated system, birth and death notifications are sent directly from hospitals and health centers to NADRA. Parents and legal heirs of the deceased receive notifications via mobile app and SMS, guiding them to complete registration at their respective Union Councils. So far, NADRA has processed over 4,000 birth notifications and 407 death notifications using this system.

Citizens can now register a birth or death through the NADRA Mobile App or by visiting their nearest Union Council. The pilot phase of the NADRA digital birth and death notification system is currently operational in three districts of Punjab and will soon expand to other regions.

NADRA is also working to extend the digital system to public and private hospitals across all provinces. Once fully implemented, the automated notification system will ensure faster service delivery and improved data accuracy for citizens nationwide.
