Pakistan made a blistering start to their Sultan of Johor Hockey Cup campaign on Saturday, outclassing hosts Malaysia 7-2 in a one-sided group-stage encounter in Johor Bahru.

Forward Sufyan Khan led the charge with a superb hat-trick, striking in the 3rd, 21st, and 34th minutes to give Pakistan a commanding lead. Captain Hannan Shahid netted the team’s third goal in the 30th minute, while Nadeem Khan added two goals in the 32nd and 44th minutes to pile on the pressure. Hamza Fayyaz sealed the emphatic win with Pakistan’s seventh goal in the 52nd minute.

Malaysia managed to pull two goals back through Abdul Ammar in the 20th minute and Kamrulddin in the 35th, but they were unable to contain Pakistan’s relentless attacking display.

The tournament, which began on October 11, features six teams — Pakistan, Malaysia, India, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom — competing for the prestigious junior title.

In the opening fixture earlier in the day, India edged past the UK 3-2 in a close contest.

Pakistan will face the UK in their next outing on Sunday before taking on arch-rivals India in a highly anticipated clash on Tuesday. Each side will play five group-stage matches before the final on October 18 at Johor Bahru Stadium.
