
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is set to inaugurate the first electric public bus servic[1]e in Rawalpindi on October 15, marking a major milestone in the province’s push for sustainable, modern, and affordable transportation. The initiative aims to provide commuters with a clean, comfortable, and cost-effective alternative to conventional public transport.
The project, led by the Punjab Transport Department, will initially deploy 87 air-conditioned electric buses across four key routes, with the first phase launching between Rawat and Motorway Chowk.
“This service will redefine urban mobility in Rawalpindi modern, affordable, and environmentally friendly,” said Malik Abrar Ahmad, PML-N Rawalpindi Division President and Chair of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat.

The fare structure has been designed to ensure accessibility, with students and senior citizens traveling free of cost. The buses are fully electric, air-conditioned, and equipped with modern safety and ticketing systems.
Malik Abrar added that the new system would help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, while also offering “a dignified travel experience” for daily commuters.
Under CM Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, Punjab has seen significant reforms across transport, healthcare, education, and governance. The electric bus initiative reflects her vision for green, inclusive development and aims to make Rawalpindi a model for eco-friendly urban mobility in Pakistan.
