OpenAI has officially expanded its lower-cost subscription tier, ChatGPT Go, to Pakistan as of October 2025, offering users a more affordable way to access GPT-5 and other advanced tools. The rollout is part of OpenAI’s broader expansion across 16 Asian markets, signaling a major step toward democratizing AI access.
ChatGPT Go retains all features from the free version while unlocking premium-style capabilities such as image generation, file uploads, data analysis, and higher usage limits. It’s designed for users who want advanced functionality without the full cost of higher tiers.
According to reports, the introduction of ChatGPT Go follows growing demand for a middle-ground option between the free and premium tiers. In Pakistan, ChatGPT Go costs Rs. 1,400 per month, significantly undercutting ChatGPT Plus (Rs. 5,700/month), ChatGPT Pro (Rs. 49,900/month), and ChatGPT Business (Rs. 8,499/month). The initiative aims to make AI tools more accessible in emerging economies where affordability has been a key barrier.
Additionally, local currency billing in PKR is a cornerstone of this rollout. OpenAI’s move to enable domestic payments reduces friction from exchange rate fluctuations and international transaction hurdles.
The Go plan was first introduced earlier this year in India and Indonesia, before extending to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar. Analysts note that availability may differ slightly across web, iOS, and Android platforms in some regions.
By pricing ChatGPT Go competitively, OpenAI is directly challenging rivals like Google, which has started offering region-specific AI subscriptions. For students, freelancers, and small businesses, this mid-tier option provides access to cutting-edge AI without premium-level pricing.
