Pakistan’s education boards are taking a major step toward modernizing the country’s examination system with new digital evaluation methods. The move focuses on improving transparency and efficiency through automation, Optical Mark Recognition (OMR), and e-marking technologies.

The development came during a meeting under the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) on Wednesday. The session brought together Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) Chairman Dr. Ikram Ali Malik, Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Chairman Faqir Muhammad Lakho, and Sindh Board of Technical Education Chairman Musharraf Ali Rajput at the FBISE office in Islamabad.

During the meeting, officials agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) among the three boards. Under this agreement, the Federal Board will provide full technical support, guidance, and training to the Karachi and Sindh Technical Boards. The goal is to introduce automation, OMR, and e-marking systems across both institutions.

In the first phase, two officers from each provincial board will undergo training at the Federal Board in Islamabad. After completing the program, the tested systems already operating at the Federal Board will be implemented in Karachi and Sindh.

The initiative is expected to enhance transparency, accuracy, and speed in paper evaluation while reducing human error.

Chairman Faqir Muhammad Lakho noted that the Karachi Board had already conducted the Mathematics paper of Intermediate Part-I Annual Examinations 2025 using e-marking as a pilot project. The experiment, he said, produced highly positive results and demonstrated the effectiveness of digital evaluation.

The meeting also included the FBISE Director IT, Dr. Bashir Khan, and Controller of Examinations Aqeel Imran, who expressed their commitment to supporting this digital shift in Pakistan’s education system.
