Amazon’s Project Kuiper has officially announced its plan to launch satellite-based broadband services in Pakistan by late 2026, a move expected to revolutionize digital connectivity across the country’s remote and underserved areas. This initiative follows a high-level meeting between the Ministry of IT & Telecommunication (MoITT) and Amazon’s Project Kuiper delegation, signaling growing collaboration between Pakistan and global tech leaders.

Project Kuiper, a multi-billion-dollar Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, aims to deploy more than 3,200 satellites to provide high-speed, low-latency internet worldwide. In Pakistan, Amazon plans to establish ground infrastructure, including gateways and Points of Presence (PoPs), to ensure stable connectivity and integration with the national digital ecosystem.

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja welcomed Amazon’s initiative, stating,

“Project Kuiper’s entry into Pakistan will enhance digital inclusion, empower rural communities, and support our vision for a modern, connected nation.”

The ministry confirmed that this collaboration aligns with Pakistan’s Digital Nation 2030 Vision, focusing on equitable access to technology, digital literacy, and innovation-driven growth. Once operational, Kuiper could offer speeds of up to 400 Mbps through affordable user terminals, making it a strong competitor to other satellite internet providers such as Starlink.

Amazon’s Project Kuiper is expanding rapidly across regions, with operations and regulatory clearances underway in several countries. The company has partnered with telecom operators in the UK and Europe, launched service agreements in Latin America, and is reportedly in talks to begin operations in India and Saudi Arabia soon. The initiative aims to deliver high-speed, affordable satellite internet to underserved areas globally  including South Asia, where Pakistan’s inclusion marks a major step toward regional digital connectivity.

Industry experts believe Project Kuiper’s launch will create new opportunities in Pakistan’s IT and telecom sectors, fostering job creation, innovation, and improved access to online education, e-commerce, and remote work.
