The Sindh cabinet has approved a major relief measure by waiving death certificate fees across the province, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to a spokesperson, the cabinet has given formal approval to abolish the registration fee for death certificates at all municipal, union council, and town committee levels. The move comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ease access to essential civil registration services.
The spokesperson added that this decision follows the Sindh cabinet’s earlier approval of free birth registration announced in September 2024.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that under the new arrangement, the provincial government will cover NADRA’s service charges, enabling citizens to obtain death certificates without paying any fee. He added that the initiative was taken in consultation with the Law and Finance Departments.
The proposal was submitted to the cabinet after receiving clearance from the Chief Secretary. The Chief Minister further emphasized the need to promote digital registration of vital events in line with the Sindh Local Government Act 2013.
Officials said the waiver aims to strengthen the province’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system and ensure timely and accessible documentation for all citizens.
