Next year marks the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil[1], as well as the franchise’s return to the big screen courtesy of Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Cregger. The Resident Evil reboot is set to begin filming soon, and Cregger has lined up a few more performers for the movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter[2], Zach Cherry is one of the latest additions to Resident Evil. His character is said to be a scientist who works at a hospital. Cherry was previously nominated for an Emmy for his performance as Dylan George in Apple TV+’s Severance. He has also appeared in minor roles in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the Fallout TV series.

True Detective: Night Country actress and former boxer Kali Reis is also joining the cast a military veteran that THR states was previously envisioned as a male character. Johnno Wilson, a comedian who appeared in Twisted Metal Season 2, is slated to have a role in Resident Evil as well.

Weapons standout Austin Abrams has a leading role[3] in Resident Evil, but he won’t be playing one of the characters from the games. Cregger has cited Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident 4 as the games that set the tone for his movie, and indicated that the film will maintain continuity with those stories even though they won’t be sharing characters.

“I’m following the rules, but I’m not claiming any key, canon characters because we have those in the games,” said Cregger[4]. “I don’t think I am taking any more liberties with this [movie] than the game franchise does. I think I am coloring within the lines.”

Production will begin later this month in Prague, and Resident Evil will hit theaters on September 18, 2026. The next game in the series, Resident Evil Requiem[5], will be coming to Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 27, 2026.
