Nigerian striker Akor Adams marked his first Super Eagles call-up in style by scoring in Sevilla’s 4–1 victory over Barcelona on Sunday afternoon at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
The Andalusian side dominated the game from start to finish, thrilling their home supporters with a commanding display.
Bryan Sánchez opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 13th minute, before Romero doubled Sevilla’s advantage in the 36th minute to make it 2–0 at half-time.
Barcelona briefly came back into the game when Marcus Rashford pulled one back in first-half stoppage time (45+7’), but Sevilla quickly regained control after the break. J. Ángel Carmona made it 3–1 in the 90th minute before Akor Adams, assisted by fellow Nigerian Chidera Ejuke, sealed the win with a calm finish in the 90+6 minute — his first-ever goal against Barcelona.
Before the match, Adams had confidently said he believed he could score against any team if given the chance, and he proved that with his performance.
The goal came just days after the 24-year-old received his first call-up to the Nigerian senior national team, giving a big boost to the Super Eagles ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho on October 10 and Benin Republic on October 16.
Adams, who also scored the winner in Sevilla’s 1–0 victory over Rayo Vallecano last weekend, continues to show excellent form and readiness to lead Nigeria’s attack.
His impressive display was a strong message for both Sevilla and Super Eagles coach Eric Sekou Chelle, who will be relying on in-form forwards for the upcoming qualifiers.
The emphatic win lifted Sevilla’s spirits and showed their improving attacking chemistry, with Ejuke also making a strong impact off the bench.
Barcelona, on the other hand, were left stunned by Sevilla’s pace, power, and precision.
Akor Adams is expected to join the Super Eagles camp on Monday as preparations continue for Nigeria’s push to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
