  • James Gunn says Peacemaker season 2 episode 8 will be its longest entry
  • Viewers have been critical of the show’s increasingly shorter runtimes
  • Excluding an episode 6 recap and its end credits, episode 7 ran for just 28 minutes

James Gunn has reassured fans that the final episode of Peacemaker season 2[1] will be much longer than its predecessors.

Over the last few weeks, viewers have become increasingly vocal about how short this season’s episodes are. Indeed, the runtimes of the HBO Max[2] show’s most recent chapters have become shorter as the weeks have gone on, with this season’s seventh episode, titled ‘Like a Keith in the Night’, clocking in at just 28 minutes. That’s excluding the recap of last week’s episode, this season’s title sequence and its end credits.

Thankfully, Peacemaker[3]‘s season 2 finale will address these complaints and be almost twice as long as the DC Universe (DCU[4]) TV show’s latest installment.

Responding to a fan on Threads about this season’s concise runtimes, Gunn wrote: “You’ll be happy to know next week’s episode is over 57 minutes long.”

Now, it’s unclear if Gunn means those 57 minutes are completely dedicated to wrapping up one of the best HBO Max shows[5]‘ second season. It’s possible that season 2 episode 8’s runtime is inclusive of episode 7’s recap, the end credits crawl and the final outing for Peacemaker season 2’s fantastic opening titles number[6].

My guess is next week’s near-hour long entry will comprise those aspects, so I suspect the plot of this season’s eighth and final chapter will clock in between 45 and 50 minutes. Still, given the increasingly abbreviated nature of each one of season 2’s entries, I’m going to enjoy every single minute of what could be a highly emotional end for Peacemaker as a TV series.

Confused? Gunn previously indicated that Peacemaker season 2 could be the show’s final installment[7]. I and many other fans will hope that’s not the case, but it’s a distinct possibility.

Whether it is or isn’t, we’ll see its cast in other DCU Chapter One[8] movies and TV shows – Gunn telling Collider[9] that there are plans for its eclectic characters to pop up in other DC Studios projects. We’ll have to wait for the season 2 finale, titled ‘The Full Nelson’, to see what lies in store for the titular anti-hero and his allies, though.

In the meantime, find out why fans have been left stunned by Peacemaker season 2 episode 7’s killer twist of an ending[10].
