It was a mixed day in men’s tennis, with Jannik Sinner celebrating another big win and Gael Monfils announcing plans to retire.

Sinner Wins China Open Title

24-year-old Jannik Sinner won the China Open by beating American youngster Learner Tien in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. This is Sinner’s 21st career title and his third trophy of 2025, including wins at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Sinner continues to lead the way with fellow star Carlos Alcaraz, who recently won the Japan Open. Alcaraz is skipping the Shanghai Open to rest an ankle injury, which means Sinner will be the top seed for the tournament. The event will also feature Novak Djokovic, playing his first tournament since the US Open.

Monfils to Retire in 2026

On the same day, Gael Monfils announced that he will retire from tennis in 2026, after the Rolex Paris Masters next November.

Monfils, who turned pro in 2004, is well known for his fun, athletic playing style and entertaining personality. He will turn 40 next year and is expected to receive many tributes as he travels the world for his final season.

Over his long career, Monfils has won 13 ATP titles, with a win-loss record of 583–350, and has earned over $24 million in prize money — placing him 24th on the all-time earnings list.

He is married to Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina, and although nothing is confirmed, fans would love to see them play mixed doubles during his final year on tour.

As always, Monfils shared the news in a light-hearted way, posting a fun video with Svitolina and former French players Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gilles Simon, and Richard Gasquet.
