Spotify Lets Users Exclude Songs From Taste Profile

Spotify has rolled out a new feature that gives users more control over their music recommendations by allowing them to exclude specific tracks from influencing their taste profile. This move aims to improve personalized suggestions across playlists and features like Discovery Weekly, Wrapped, and Blend.

Previously, Spotify only allowed the exclusion of entire playlists from shaping recommendations, which wasn’t ideal for scenarios like sleep sounds, kids’ songs, or occasional tracks users didn’t actually enjoy. With the new option, both free and premium users can now manually remove songs from their listening history to keep their profile accurate.

To use the feature, listeners can tap the three-dot menu on the selected song and choose to either exclude it or re-include it later. This helps ensure that accidental plays or family-shared sessions don’t disrupt personalized music curation.

Spotify[1] acknowledged that personalization has always been central to its platform but admitted that in real-life situations like parents dealing with children’s playlists or households sharing smart speakers algorithmic recommendations often became skewed.

“This feature offers more recourse for listeners who want their recommendations to truly reflect their personal taste and ensures their Spotify Wrapped experience isn’t ruined by the kids’ music.”

The update marks another step in Spotify’s push for hyper-personalized streaming, giving users a stronger say in how their digital music identity is shaped.
