‘I look forward to … ensuring the Republican Party remains united and ready to win big in the cycles ahead.’
Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) Chair Evan Power will help shape the presidential nominating process for Republicans in 2028.
The Republican National Committee (RNC), now chaired[1] by Florida Republican National Committeeman Joe Gruters, announced Power’s nomination to the Standing Committee on the Presidential Nominating Process.
“I am deeply honored to serve on the RNC’s Standing Committee on the Presidential Nominating Process,” Power said.
“Having participated in multiple national conventions, I’ve seen firsthand how a strong, inclusive nominating process empowers our voters and elevates principled candidates. I look forward to working with fellow committee members to refine our rules, promote geographic diversity, and build on the successes we’ve achieved in Florida — ensuring the Republican Party remains united and ready to win big in the cycles ahead.”
Power has served as a Florida delegate to the Republican National Convention[2] three times and has served on the national party’s Rules and Order Committee.
He has been Chair of the Florida GOP since January 2024[3], when he took over after former Chair Christian Ziegler’s ouster amid a sex scandal. Power won a full two-year term in January[4].
The state party noted that under Power, Florida Republicans have grown its advantage in voter registration to 1.4 million over Democrats. Republicans first overtook Democrats in 2021[5] when Gruters served as RPOF Chair.
The 2028 nomination process will be critical for the party. President Donald Trump, despite occasionally suggesting he will seek a third term[6], is constitutionally restricted from running again. That means both parties will enter the election cycle without an incumbent at the top of the ticket.
GOP successors to Trump are already being discussed, including Vice President JD Vance. Some Florida candidates, including Gov. Ron DeSantis and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have also been floated.
The Standing Committee on the Presidential Nominating Process will craft the process for the party to elect a nominee in coordination with state parties across the country.
