OpenAI is transforming ChatGPT into more than just a chat tool. With the launch of Instant Checkout, users can now buy products directly from their chats, making online shopping faster and more seamless.

The company notes that ChatGPT already handles over 2.5 billion prompts each day from its 700 million users worldwide, many of which involve product recommendations. Instant Checkout is designed to bridge the gap between browsing and buying, enabling direct purchases without leaving the app.

The feature is powered by the Agentic Commerce Protocol, a streamlined system that reduces online shopping to a few steps. Users can search for and select a product, confirm payment, and add shipping details with a single click, and then review the final costs, including taxes and delivery charges.

Transactions are processed securely through Stripe, while merchants on platforms such as Etsy and Shopify handle fulfillment. OpenAI stresses that customers have full control of the process and can stop at any stage before finalizing an order.

OpenAI has emphasized that the feature prioritizes security and user trust. Payment tokens are encrypted, and only the minimal data required for processing an order is shared with merchants.

At present, Instant Checkout is available only through select platforms and merchants. However, wider adoption is expected as AI-driven commerce grows. Reports also suggest OpenAI may integrate the feature into ChatGPT Pulse, enabling personalized product recommendations based on user chat history.

It is unclear if or when the feature will arrive for Pakistani users.
