The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) is throwing its weight behind Samantha Scott for House District 52.
Scott is running to replace John Paul Temple, who is not seeking re-election after being appointed[1] President of Lake-Sumter College this Summer. Both are Republicans.
“Samantha Scott knows firsthand what it takes to create jobs, grow a business, and contribute to Florida’s economy,” AIF President and CEO Brewster Bevis said.
“Together with her husband, she has grown a successful plumbing company that now employs more than 200 people across Central Florida. Her background running a successful business gives her the perspective we need in the Florida House to stand up and fight for Florida’s job creators. AIF is proud to support her campaign and confident she will continue to put Florida’s businesses and economy first if elected.”
Bevis is referring to Mike Scott Plumbing[2], for which Scott serves as Director of Marketing. She’s also a Realtor for Connie Mahan Real Estate Group[3] in Bushnell, and serves as Secretary of the Sumter County Youth Center Board of Directors.
Scott also has something in common with the lawmaker she hopes to succeed. As Temple assumes leadership of Lake-Sumter State College, Scott serves on the school’s District Board of Trustees as a Gov. Ron DeSantis appointee[4].
“I know firsthand how hard it is to run a business and make ends meet — especially for small business owners who feel like they’re constantly battling government red tape,” Scott said.
“My husband and I grew our business throughout Central Florida, and we’re proud of the jobs we’ve created and the families we help support. With the support of organizations like AIF, and if I earn the trust of voters to represent them in Tallahassee, I will always fight to make sure government gets out of the way and lets Florida businesses grow, compete, and thrive.”
In addition to her professional work, Scott is also a member of several local organizations, including the Realtor Association of Lake and Sumter Counties, Sumter County Farm Bureau and Sumter County Fair Association.
She previously worked as Executive Director for the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce. In 2023, she was appointed[5] to the Make America Florida Committee by then-Florida GOP Chair Christian Ziegler.
A third-generation Sumter resident, Scott is a graduate of Leadership Sumter and received “Top 40 Under 40” from Lake Sumter Style Magazine before turning 40; she’s now 44.
Scott also serves as Chair of the Republican Party of Sumter County[6] and Vice President of the Sumter County Republican Club.
AIF is known as “The Voice of Florida Business.” The group represents the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before all three branches of state government, a role it has fulfilled since 1920.
Scott is so far the only candidate filed for the HD 52 seat. The district covers Sumter County and parts of Hernando.
