Moody outlined legislation she’s co-sponsoring to eliminate ‘narcoterrorism’ from Venezuela during roundtable in South Florida.

Sen. Ashley Moody[1] says she is stepping up efforts to stem “narcoterrorism” which is coming from drug cartels associated with Venezuela.

Moody took part in a law enforcement roundtable discussion in Miami-Dade County Friday where she promoted several legislative measures she is co-sponsoring in the U.S. Senate designed to fight drug cartels smuggling substances into America from Venezuela. One of those measures is the Stop Maduro Act[2].

That proposal would increase rewards that contribute to the arrest and conviction of Nicolas Maduro Moros, the current President of Venezuela.  The proposed legislation would pay informants or witnesses $100,000 for any assistance that ended in the conviction of Moduro on drug trafficking charges.

Moody also highlighted the proposed BOLIVAR[3] act which is an acronym for Banning Operations and Leases with the Illegitimate Venezuelan Authoritarian Regime.

“Narcoterrorism is a war on our country, our kids, and law and order. These terrorists smuggle overwhelming amounts of deadly drugs into our country and sell this poison destabilizing our communities,” Moody said in a news release[4]. “The cartels were emboldened and strengthened under the Biden administration, but thankfully President Donald Trump has taken strong action against these terrorist organizations.

“The Stop Maduro Act and BOLIVAR Act will help the president as he leads the charge against the cartels. As I’ve done when I was Florida’s Attorney General, and now as U.S. Senator, I will continue fighting to stop drug trafficking, remove violent criminals from our communities and save lives.”

Moody was Florida Attorney General until she was appointed to the U.S. Senate this year to replace Marco Rubio who was elevated to U.S. Secretary of State by Trump.

The BOLIVAR Act proposes a ban on U.S. government agencies from entering into contracts with companies that have contracted with Venezuela under the Maduro regime. When she was Florida’s Attorney General, Moody had called on former President Joe Biden to designate drug cartels as terrorist organizations.
