WhatsApp is rolling out a new tool called Message Translations, giving users the ability to translate text messages directly inside chats.
The feature works across one-on-one conversations, group chats, and even Channels. When a message arrives in another language, users can simply long-press it, tap on “Translate,” and select the language they want. To make things easier, translations can also be downloaded for offline use.
Android users get an extra advantage. They can enable automatic translations for entire chat threads, ensuring all incoming messages appear in their preferred language without extra steps.
WhatsApp says all translations are processed on the device itself, which means no one, not even WhatsApp, can access them.
The update is already reaching both iPhone and Android users. For Android, supported languages at launch include English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. Meanwhile, iPhone users will have broader access with translation support for more than 19 languages.
With this addition, WhatsApp is aiming to make cross-language communication smoother, whether it’s for friends, family, or global communities.
