UNF was ranked 222nd overall and 122nd among public universities in the U.S.
The University of North Florida[1] is climbing higher in the U.S. New & World Report’s[2] 2026 list of best higher education institutions[3] in the nation.
It’s the seventh year in a row the First Coast university made the rankings. In the latest iteration[4], U.S. News & World Report listed UNF as the 222nd overall university[5] in the United States out of 436 universities. That’s an improvement for the Northeast Florida campus that was listed at No. 131 last year.
Looking at just public schools, UNF came in at No. 122. That’s also an improvement for UNF compared to last year, when the university was ranked No. 133.
“We are proud to once again be recognized among the nation’s top universities by U.S. News & World Report,” said UNF President Moez Limayem. “This achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of our faculty and staff, the ambition of our students, and our commitment to providing a high-quality, affordable education that prepares graduates for meaningful careers and lifelong learning.”
The jump in the rankings comes as UNF is seeing improved enrollment at its campus on the Southside of Jacksonville. UNF set a record this Fall with about 17,600 people signed up for classes.
The U.S. News & World Report analysis also gave a nod to UNF’s social mobility among its students. The university was ranked 125th in the country in that category, an increase of 11 spots from the previous year. That category specifically looks at economically disadvantaged students who see social advancement through their college experience.
UNF was also ranked 141st in undergraduate engineering programs that don’t offer a doctorate program and 160th among nursing programs in the country.
