
Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers and Springdale sales tax revenue totaled $9.736 million in the September report, down 1.79% from the year-ago period. Bentonville had a 19.92% decline for the period, which skewed lower the total revenue tally.
Bentonville reported sales tax revenue of $2.03 million for the month, its lowest number for the month since 2020. The 19.92% drop in revenue came on the heels of 2.36% and 14.16% declines reported in August and July, respectively.
City leaders attribute the decline to more cautious consumer spending and tax rebates from several large projects around the city. Through the past nine months of this year, Bentonville reports revenue of $18.899 million, down 1.77% from the same period last year. Through August, Bentonville’s sales tax revenue has been offset by $8.047 million in rebates, 36.25% higher than a year ago.
Rogers reported sales tax revenue of $2.666 million, up 1.59%, the slowest growth rate for September data over the past decade. The 1.59% gains came on the heels of a 0.42% revenue decline in August and three months of growth between May and July. The city budgeted for 9.2% growth this year. Through the September data, sales tax revenue totals $23.583 million, up 2.4%. The city also reports its revenue has lowered by $1.41 million in rebates through August. Rebates charged this year are 15.57% higher than a year ago.
Springdale reported solid growth in its September report with revenue of $2.736 million, up 5.6% from a year ago. This comes after gains of 4.57% in August, 4.07% in July and 8.25% growth in June.
Through the past nine months of this year, Springdale reports total sales tax revenue of $19.655 million, up 6.39% year over year, the best results against the peer cities. The city also reports slightly higher rebates this year, totaling $2.025 million through August, slightly higher than the $2.016 million a year ago.
Fayetteville reported revenue of $2.736 million in the September report, up 5.6% from a year ago. The city grew sales from gains of 4.57% in August, 5.4% in July and 4.07% in June. Fayetteville reports year-to-date revenue of $24.913 million, up 4.64% from $23.813 million reported a year ago. The city’s revenue has been offset by rebates totaling $2.723 million through August. Rebates are flat against the same period a year ago.
