Lionel Messi has congratulated his former Barcelona teammate Ousmane Dembele after the French winger won the Ballon d’Or on Monday night in Paris.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has praised Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and head coach Justine Madugu for their impressive achievements at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony held in Paris on Monday night.

Nnadozie Among the World’s Best

Chiamaka Nnadozie, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion, finished fourth in the Women’s Yachine Trophy, which honours the world’s best female goalkeeper.

The 24-year-old stood out after her brilliant performances at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where she was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament as Nigeria won their 10th continental title.

She has also been voted Africa’s Best Goalkeeper for two years in a row.

Nnadozie placed behind England’s Hannah Hampton (winner), Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger, and Spain’s Cata Coll, but finished ahead of Daphne van Domselaar from the Netherlands.

NFF’s Reaction

NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, congratulated Nnadozie, saying:

“We heartily congratulate Chiamaka Nnadozie on her fourth-place finish. It is a big achievement considering the top-level goalkeepers she competed with. We believe she has what it takes to win this award very soon.”

Coach Madugu Also Recognised

JUSTIN MADUGU

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu also received global recognition, finishing fourth in the Women’s Coach of the Year category.

His recognition follows Nigeria’s thrilling 3-2 win over hosts Morocco in the WAFCON final, securing Nigeria’s 10th title.

Dr Sanusi added:

“Coach Madugu’s achievement proves the NFF made the right decision by appointing him. This recognition shows his strong leadership, and we hope for more success in the future.”

The Coach of the Year award was won by England’s Sarina Wiegman, with Chelsea’s Sonia Bompastor, Brazil’s Arthur Elias, and Arsenal’s Renée Slegers also nominated.

A Proud Moment for Nigerian Football

Both Nnadozie and Madugu’s performances and recognition have been seen as a big win for Nigerian football, showing the strength and progress of the Super Falcons on the global stage.
