Pakistan’s power sector circular debt stood at PKR 1.6 trillion in July 2025, compared to PKR 2.3 trillion in July 2024. The latest figures highlight a notable change, as the debt trend shows a rise this fiscal year after recording a decline during the same period last year.
In July FYTD 2025, the circular debt increased by PKR 47 billion, while July FYTD 2024 had seen a reduction of PKR 42 billion. This year’s surge was mainly the result of distribution companies’ underperformance of nearly PKR 87 billion, against PKR 147 billion during the same period previously.
