The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has praised Enyimba Football Club of Aba after their exciting 3-2 win against Bendel Insurance in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.
The team, known as the People’s Elephants, came from behind twice to win the match in Aba.
Bendel Insurance scored early in the 2nd minute, shocking the home crowd. But Enyimba equalised in the 18th minute with a goal from Abiodun Joseph.
Insurance scored again in the 59th minute, making it 2-1. However, Enyimba fought back once more. Kalu Nweke scored a penalty in the 66th minute, and just three minutes later, Chidera Michael scored the winning goal in the 69th minute.
The win takes Enyimba to the top of the NPFL table, with 11 points from five games.
Governor Otti was present at the match with some members of his cabinet. He also visited the team during halftime to encourage them.
After the match, the Governor wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“I enjoyed watching the thrilling NPFL match between Enyimba and Bendel Insurance. Enyimba showed great spirit, coming from behind twice to win and go top of the league.”
He added, “At halftime, I visited the team to encourage them. They showed heart and determination in the second half.”
The Governor thanked the fans for their strong support and praised Bendel Insurance for their courage and fair play.
He also thanked Enyimba’s coaching staff, the club’s board, and Chairman Kanu Nwankwo for their leadership.
“Today, Enyimba showed the true spirit of our people. With unity and belief, we can achieve great things,” Otti said.
