Remo Stars of Ikenne made a flying start to their CAF Champions League campaign on Sunday, cruising to a 4–0 win over Comoros champions Zilimadjou at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
The Sky Blue Stars went ahead in the 12th minute through Leonard Ngenge, who calmly slotted home after latching onto a teammate’s pass. Chigozie Shileku doubled the lead just before half-time, heading in from a set-piece to make it 2–0.
In the second half, Malian forward Adama Goita extended the scoreline in the 68th minute with a composed finish. Substitute Samson Olasupo then sealed the victory late on with a well-taken effort, completing a dominant display for the Nigerian champions.
The result puts Remo Stars in a strong position ahead of the second leg in Comoros as they aim to advance in Africa’s top club competition.
Head Coach Daniel Ogunmodede said the club is determined to improve on last season’s performance, when they crashed out in the first round on penalties to Ghana’s Medeama. He praised the team’s growth and credited club owner Hon. Kunle Soname for his vision and investment.
“Some years ago, we were struggling in the second division, but today we are NPFL champions,” Ogunmodede said. “Now, we want to prove ourselves on the continent. This victory shows we are ready.”
Remo Stars will face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the next round if they overcome Zilimadjou.
