The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched a crackdown on 100,000 influencers and wealthy individuals who are flaunting their wealth on social media platforms. Officials confirmed that the move is aimed at bringing non-filers into the tax net and ensuring income declarations match visible spending patterns.

According to details, the FBR has compiled data on individuals showcasing their luxury lifestyles online, including mansions, high-end cars, jewelry, and other extravagant assets. Non-filers who host lavish weddings or display expensive purchases are now under the authority’s radar.

In some cases, individuals reportedly wore suits worth up to $20,000 at weddings. The FBR will require such people to provide proof of income sources and justify their lavish expenditures.

To tighten monitoring, the tax body will compare income tax returns filed last year with those submitted this year. Any discrepancies between reported earnings and apparent spending will trigger action.

Officials stated that this scrutiny is part of a broader strategy to expand Pakistan’s tax base by targeting influencers and wealthy individuals flaunting their wealth online. The FBR emphasized that those living beyond declared means must account for their income to avoid penalties.
