The Punjab government has approved a hike in delivery charges for vehicle registration documents, including files, smart cards, and number plates, citing rising inflation and increased operational costs. The decision comes under a revised three-year agreement with the Pakistan Post Office.
Earlier, the Post Office had demanded more than a 400% hike in delivery charges, which would have made its rates even higher than private courier companies. However, this proposal was rejected by the Director General of Excise and Taxation, after which a revised structure was finalized with comparatively lower increases.
According to officials, the new fee schedule will apply once it receives final approval from the provincial government. The Excise Department believes the revised rates will help ensure timely and secure delivery of documents to vehicle owners across Punjab, while keeping costs lower than private courier services.
