Google is bringing its Gemini AI assistant directly into the Chrome browser for Mac and PC, starting with users in the U.S. The integration is designed to make browsing more interactive by letting Gemini simplify complex information on any webpage.
A small Gemini icon will soon appear in the upper-right corner of Chrome. When clicked, it opens options such as “learn about the page” or “explore a topic.” By default, the Ask Gemini tool answers questions related to the tab you currently have open.
Multi-Tab and App Integration
The assistant is not limited to a single page. It works across multiple tabs, helping users compare or summarize content from different websites. To go further, Gemini connects with Google apps like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps. That means you can jump to a specific moment in a YouTube video or schedule a meeting without leaving the browser.
Later this month, Google will expand the experience with AI Mode in search. This feature will be available directly from the Chrome address bar and will handle long, detailed queries.
Smarter Browsing and Stronger Security
Gemini will also track your browsing history to make it easier to revisit sites you have already opened. On the security side, Google is upgrading Safe Browsing to block malicious pages that use fake viruses or fake giveaways to steal personal information.
The roadmap goes beyond search and browsing. In the coming months, Gemini in Chrome will gain agentic capabilities. Google says the AI will take on tedious tasks like booking a haircut or ordering groceries. You will simply tell Chrome what to do, and Gemini will act on webpages to complete the request.
The company also confirmed that Gemini is headed to the Chrome app for iOS, with availability expected in the near future.
