Back in the ’90s, Aeon Flux helped MTV establish itself as more than just a hub for music videos. The animated series became a cult-classic thanks to its groundbreaking animation and surreal sci-fi story. The show then saw a live-action film adaptation starring Charlize Theron in 2005. While the film doesn’t quite match the bar of quality set by the animated series, Aeon Flux is still a rock-solid sci-fi movie–and for its upcoming 20th anniversary, it’s finally coming to 4K Blu-ray with a new steelbook edition. Preorders for the Aeon Flux 20th Anniversary Steelbook Edition 4K Blu-ray[1] are available for $34 ahead of its October 7 release.
$34 | Releases October 7[2]

The Aeon Flux 20th Anniversary Steelbook Edition features cover art of the film’s original theatrical poster. Special features haven’t been confirmed yet, but we’re expecting this new 4K Blu-ray version to include much of the same bonus content from previous DVD and Blu-ray releases.
Set in the distant future, Aeon Flux takes place in a world that is still reeling from a deadly virus that killed 99% percent of the human race. In the centuries since the outbreak, survivors established the walled city of Bregna, which is governed by congress of scientists led by Trevor Goodchild. A mysterious faction hires telepathic warrior Aeon Flux (Theron) to assassinate Goodchild. However, soon into her mission, Aeon finds herself investigating a tangled conspiracy hiding Bregna City’s true nature.
Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Collection

As mentioned above, the live-action Aeon Flux movie pales in comparison to its animated source material–and if you want to check out the original series, you can grab the Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Series Collection Director’s Cut on DVD for $13.51 (was $17) at Amazon. Along with all episodes of the show, this DVD set includes bonus materials like a commentary track from series creator Peter Chung, featurettes, production art, and several TV shorts.
Several other movies from decades past are slated for special edition 4K Blu-ray releases later this year as well. This includes 2000s-era slashers like The Devil’s Rejects[3], ’90s comic book adaptations like The Mask[4] and Spawn,[5] and classic musicals like Rocky Horror Picture Show[6] and The Sound of Music[7]. Plenty of new films are also getting steelbook edition 4K Blu-rays as well, including 28 Years Later[8], The Long Walk[9], F1: The Movie, and more. Check out the list below for even more special edition 4K Blu-rays available to preorder bow.
